Seeking fluidity in the softening of Flowing
Seeking clarity in the beat of Staccato
Seeking freedom in the release of Chaos
Seeking delight in the beauty of Lyrical
Seeking peace in the aliveness of Stillness
Moving through the wave of the 5 Rhythms helps us shift and move into a different frame of mind as well as keeping physically fit, curious and creative.
A movement practice with no steps to learn, 5 Rhythms is suitable for people of different ages and levels of fitness. This practice was devised by Gabrielle Roth, theatre director , trailblazer and author of Maps to Ecstasy, Sweat Your Prayers and Connections.
I was apprenticed to Gabrielle Roth who called me Ravensister - she always encouraged me to value my own dance as a teacher, to demonstrate, dance with the group and continue to embody the practice with clarity and energy.
There's a beautiful book created by Gabrielle Roth's husband Robert Ansell, full of lovely photographs and moments of love and wisdom, details on the 5 Rhythms Global website to buy it.
"Put the body into motion and the psyche will heal itself"
I had an inspiring and satisfying time working with Gabrielle's son Jonathan Horan recently on God, Sex and the Body workshops, and Exploring the Self in Bilbao.
Dancing the 5Rhythms is a practice—a dynamic way to both workout and to meditate in the same breath. They teach us that life is energy in motion, freeing us from any fixed notions about people, places, objects or ideas.
'They say that a picture tells a thousand words. One deep dance tells millions.
In dancing 5Rhythms you can unearth a freestyle movement vocabulary rooted in unexpected, fresh ways of moving—visceral and highly personal. You can track perceptions and memories; seek out gestures and shapes; tune into instincts and intuitions.
They initiate us back into the wisdom of our bodies and unleash movement’s dynamic healing power.
In dancing 5Rhythms the body becomes our spiritual path.'
Words above are from the 5 Rhythms Global website - details there of many teachers from around the world.
All hours danced in my classes and workshops count towards teacher training pre-requisites at Waves or Heartbeat level.
